A Video Game About A

A Video Game About A Frog Has Made Millions - Frogger

The Frogger

Frogger is a videogame that was originally developed by Konami. It is one of the most loved arcade videogames that was released by Sega in the US. The classic characters and theme have made it popular in the late 1980s among gamers from all ages. Frogger actually leapt into the videogame scene in 1981 which transformed gamers into log-hopping players.

Frogger became so popular that Atari VCS, Atari 5200, Game Boy as well as the Mac and PC have created their own versions of it. The most successful remake was Hasbro which sold millions of copies later. The developers focused on keeping the game virtually unchanged. The only things that were updated were the graphic presentation and increase of game levels.

How to play Frogger?

Basically the goal of the game is to transport frogs safely across to their lily pads. They are the only non-swimming frog family that ever existed in this world and needed the help of the players to get across a variety of obstacles to be able to return to their home. Frogger is being played vertically. The frog shall be guided from the bottom to the top of the screen. You earn bonus points for eating flies and escorting lady frogs' home along the way. Play with Frogger and you will never have a dull moment. As you guide more frogs across, the danger you encounter also progresses.

The busy highway is packed with lanes of speeding cars and trucks. Players must cross over a treacherous river filled with hungry alligators, snakes, otters and fickle minded turtles. Be quick to hop over moving logs. You must also be swift to jump at the backs of these turtles before they dived into the river to avoid you. Try not to be included in the frog diet of the otters too. Keep your eyes wide open and your mind alert to be able to continue hopping until you reach home. The lily pads are located at the top of the screens. Players are given a certain amount of time to finish each level. You may advance to the next screen when all five frogs are brought safely to their homes.

Keep your fingers crossed and keep your breath while making the deliveries for the next level. The cars in the highway now run like high speed luxury cars. The enemies are even deadlier. The challenge is to take what is impossible - being alive during the transport! It would be very difficult to navigate the frog across the danger zone successfully. It is advisable that your browser supports Shockwave for a better in gaming experience.

Creating your own Frogger

The challenge is open to programmers and designer who would want to make a little twist of the original Frogger design. Frogger is the perfect platform to start innovating and creating a game of your own. You may maintain the core idea and fill in some twist in the danger zones. The result will be your Frogger like program design. That's how some games came into existence.

Frogger sales soaring high

Frogger, Frogger Puzzle and Frogger for Prizes have grossed sales over $ 10 million. This statistics is for US alone. Frogger is a registered trademark of Konami. As of September 2006, Frogger mobile game sales have already exceeded $ 10 million. In June of 1982, Frogger has contributed $ 40 million out of the Parker Brothers video orders report of $ 60 million. This tells us that Frogger is still the widely played videogame in US.
