Why Do People Pay To

Why do people pay to play arcade games?
by

Most games are outdated and without a big group of friends it's pretty obsolete. There are much more advanced gaming systems at home so why would anyone pay money to play a game for a limited amount of time? And yes I have been to arcades with group of friends and it wasn't as satisfying.
@Waffles

Yes but when you're paying for $ 60 you get to play for it with an unlimited amount of time. I understand that most gaming systems are influenced by the very first arcade games but what's the point now? It seems pointless.

Answer(s):

Answer by Hollywood Harold
cause its fun, some people might be curious, some people miss it there is allot of resons.

Answer by Waffles!! :D
Its the shit. The old school shit. Some of the best and "advanced" games were either inspired by arcade games or started as one. I grew up playing in arcades and with my nes, snes, and SG at home. So I see nothing wrong with "paying" to play games. Cause if it takes $ 5 to beat a game instead of $ 60 to beat another in the same time, well id rather pic the $ 5. :p lol

Answer by Anthem47
I think they are in many ways a holdover from the pre-console era, and arcades have certainly been on the decline since home consoles took off.
I think the only think that keeps them going now (barely) is the sort of games that demand or are enhanced by large peripherals. Sure you can play DDR at home but I'd argue those home pads aren't as satisfying as the proper machines. Same can be said for those large racing units, you can play similar games at home but not with that sort of "emersion" (you know the ones I mean, the ones with almost a full car chasis), in particular I can think of motorbike-based games where you have to lean the whole unit to the left to turn, not something that you can easily simulate on a home console. If you go into an arcade these days, the majority of it are these kinds of games you can't get at home, and other types like skilltesters, those underarm bowling machines, all those kinds of prize machines that are built not towards gamers exactly but the general public (although the Wii probably simulates most of these game types).

Mind you I haven't enjoyed an arcade in years, but this is the shift I've noticed, to the larger units that offer something consoles can't yet. But in general, they're on the decline. I spent a lot of time in arcades in the late 80s, most of them are gone now.

Answer by Toadsie2S
Maybe it's something about the nostalgia of gaming back in the day when people used to go arcades and spend ALL OF THEIR FREAKIN LUNCH MONEY on those soul stealing machines which we knew and loved. I mean yeah those titles have been like redone and put on the newer-generation consoles and such, but playing the ones on the arcade style machines takes us back to the roots of gaming, where it ALL began

Three short stories explore the video game as metaphor. The Naifs delves into the unsettling rituals of a sterile Virtual Reality world that veers dangerously away from its connection with nature. Don't You Believe Me follows a time traveler who journeys through time battling a mysterious and devastating adversary. He eventually lands in an arcade where a video game is being played for the survival of humanity. Lastly, Hysterica is a story of rapacious consumerism and the dizzying sense of value it bestows upon us. These stories will have you thinking about video games-and life-in ways you never have before.

Pinball Number Count Compilation

Pinball Number Count Compilation

This is a compilation of the 11 clips from the "Pinball Number Count" segments that began appearing on Sesame Street in 1976. The music was composed by Walt Kraemer with vocals by the Pointer Sisters. Animation was directed by Jeff Hale. I did this in iMovie with clips found on youtube. The quality varied from clip to clip, with 5, 8 and 9 being especially dodgy. It would be nice if somebody did this for real someday with nice high quality versions.

Caperfly Appoint Former Sega Ceo

Leamington Spa, UK July 30, 2012

Caperfly Ltd, a brand new digital entertainment and media application business, today announced the appointment of former SEGA? America and Europe CEO Mike Hayes as a non-Executive Director for the company.

Caperfly aims to deliver high quality interactive titles to the iOS, Android and emerging Smart TV platforms. Hayes? appointment takes effect immediately after Caperfly?s successful launch at the recent Develop conference in Brighton, UK.

The appointment comes at a time when the applications market is seeing exponential growth driven by the rapid adoption of smartphone and tablet devices, with the market predicted to reach a value of $ 17.5b by the end of 2012 (source: Gartner).

Hayes will help the firm?s already impressive management team to develop the business model and accelerate growth. He will report to CEO Gavin Cheshire.

Hayes is widely recognised as one of the games industry?s leading figures with invaluable experience in executive and leadership roles. His last appointment as CEO of SEGA? America and Europe, a worldwide leader in interactive entertainment, saw him preside over a business turnover in excess $ 600m.

He joined SEGA? in 2004 as it moved from being a format-holder to a multiplatform developer and publisher. One of the highlights was the alliance with Nintendo to create Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games; a series of fun sports games for the Wii, DS and 3DS. Worldwide sales for the series are now in excess of 23 million units.

Hayes steered the transition into a more digital-based software company, launching one of the first game apps on iOS, and ensuring a significant portion of the company revenues were emanating from digital sales upon his departure in June 2012.

Gavin Cheshire, CEO of Caperfly said, ?Mike has achieved a great deal in his impressive games industry career. It is a privilege for us to have him on the team".

?He joins Caperfly at a very exciting period of the business, as we accelerate through our plan, and then onto the launch of our first application.?

Mike Hayes said, ?This is a good time to be in this new vibrant sector of the industry. I am positive we can take advantage of the next great wave of innovation and distribution here at Caperfly.

?I see Caperfly as a unique mix of talented individuals with aspirations to develop high-quality titles, and I relish the opportunity to be a part of their success.?

Aspiring Iphone And Ipad Developers

New York, NY July 25, 2012

Everyone at one point or another has said they wanted to create an App or game for their phone. One of the biggest hurdles to creating an app is learning how to code. Learn GameSalad for iOS shows readers how to create fun, fully functional games without having to program a single line of code.

"Learn GameSalad for iOS" provides a clear, step-by-step approach to GameSalad for the beginner. This comprehensive resource explains how to set up a user?s development environment, then moves on to teach how to create a variety of simple 2D games from a breakout-style game to an arcade shooter or a maze game. Readers will also learn to use GameSalad to create a non-game app as well. This book takes a user beyond game development to getting exposure in the App Store and using iAd to market their game.

In a recent interview by The Daily, author David Guerineau stated he wrote this book for those ?who don?t speak code.? Guerineau said. ?The reason was that I was very excited about GameSalad but also very frustrated by the lack of existing books on this subject. I spent hours learning GameSalad from forums and online tutorials, trying to learn as much as possible. So I?ve decided to share in a structured, all-in-one approach what I learned about GameSalad the hard way.? The book gives readers step-by-step directions on how to create games that resemble all-time classics like Pong, and modern favorites like Angry Birds. There are also sections on how to create non-game apps. Readers will also find tips on how to successfully prep their app for publication to the App Store as well as using iOS features like iAd and GameCenter.

?Though this book is designed for beginners, the truth is that anyone can benefit from using GameSalad, even experienced developers,? said Guerineau. ?Using it will give readers a comprehensive approach to develop their first app.?

"Learn GameSalad for iOS" is the guide for aspiring developers who want to make their first gaming app quickly and easily. If you have web development experience or no programming experience at all, you'll be able to design, build and publish a game with the help of "Learn GameSalad for iOS."

Sunnyvale, CA April 25, 2012

Actual Entertainment, the granddaddy of independent game developers, is pleased to announce development has started on Gubble 3D, the long awaited sequel to the classic international hit PC, IOS and Playstation game, Gubble. Starring Gubble D Gleep, the lovable purple alien character, Gubble has charmed and puzzled countless hardcore and casual gamers of all ages since 1996. Now Actual Entertainment is looking to bring back that much loved fun in a modern 3D format, with a unique never before seen twist for video game fans.

????"With Gubble 3D we're single-handedly bringing back the maze game category," says Franz Lanzinger, President of Actual Entertainment. "If you spent too many quarters on arcade maze games in the early eighties, then you will absolutely love Gubble 3D, our modern sequel to Gubble." The twist is a special opportunity for fans to participate in the design process of the game.

"We decided to go through the crowd funding website Kickstarter because we can't wait to make Gubble 3D the right way: together with our fans" stated Lanzinger. "This allows us to develop and self-publish on a larger scale while retaining our passionately guarded independence." Direct input into the design, alpha and beta copies, and a plethora of behind the scenes and exclusive materials are just some of the perks being offered.

???? Gubble 3D is the brainchild of Actual Entertainment, a unique collective of experienced industry veterans from the likes of Atari, Tengen, Namco, Midway Games, and Electronics Arts. Consisting of Franz Lanzinger, Eric Ginner, Mark Robichek, Steve Woita, Karl Anderson, Dave Ralston, Paul Barton, and Seppo "Zep" Hurme", their portfolio includes a large cache of well known games adored by fans the world over. Arcade classics like Crystal Castles, Toobin', Paperboy, Cyberball, 720, and Rampart, and console classics including Tengen Ms. Pac-Man, Sonic Spinball, Maximo, Krazy Kreatures, and Championship Pool. Ginner and Robichek were also former world record holders of the games Robotron and Frogger respectively, both featured in Life Magazine in 1983. As programmers they now bring their considerable playing experience to game design, and now today's game players are being given the chance to do the same.

???? Actual Entertainment is also seeking crowd funding to allow the studio to remain independent. "I just want to make good games. With Kickstarter's help we can concentrate on making games our way. The only bosses I want to see are the ones in the game!" says Steve Woita, best known for creating the classic Quadrun, the first game featuring speech synthesis on the Atari 2600.

???? Gubble 3D is a mind-bending action puzzle game where the player stars as Gubble D Gleep, a lovable purple space alien with a funny voice. Gubble loves taking things apart, using tools to remove screws, nails, bolts and other hardware while avoiding enemies in game play reminiscent of Crystal Castles. In Gubble 3D, Gubble D Gleep finally fights back against the evil Space Pirates who first kidnapped him in the original Gubble game sixteen years earlier.

???? Gubble 3D is slated for a 2013 release on PC, Mac, and IOS for iPad.

Frogger

Nominated for Ontario's 2001 Silver Birch Awards! The village of Tichburg boasts 27 volunteer firefighters, 4 fire trucks, 3 small stores, a population of 473 offbeat residents - and an 11-year-old auxiliary assistant to the fire chief named Frogger, who cheerfully wanders around town trying to be helpful to everyone. But, as Frogger is about to learn, life in Tichburg is not as easy as it should be for a kid who just wants to keep everybody happy. * A simple babysitting job for the affluent couple down the street gets complicated when Cigar Davis, a crusty 85-year-old, shows up with a sledgehammer looking for treasure he left in the attic in 1930. * An easy favor for old Dolly Gilmore, the fire chief, turns into a scorched mess. * And the Troth twins, who Frogger is babysitting, spell nothing but trouble. Frogger's problems all add up to a hilarious series of misadventures that introduce young readers to the trials and tribulations of everyday life in the rural backwater of Tichburg - where nothing is ever as simple as it seems.

<a Href=http//lookatthatcom/storyphpid=149782>aspiring Iphone And Ipad

America's Army was conceived by Colonel Casey Wardynski and is managed by the U.S. Army's Office of Economic and Manpower Analysis at the United States Military Academy. Wardynski envisioned "using computer game technology to provide the public a virtual Soldier experience that was engaging, informative and entertaining." The PC version 1.0, subtitled Recon, was first released on July 4, 2002. Since then, there have been over 26 versions released, the most recent being America's Army 3. All versions have been developed on the Unreal Engine and use PunkBuster to try to prevent cheating. The game is financed by the U.S. government and distributed by free download. America's Army has "grown in ways its originators couldn't have imagined". Dozens of government training and simulation applications using the America's Army platform have been developed to train and educate U.S. Army Soldiers. America's Army has also been used to deliver virtual Soldiering experiences to participants at events, such as air shows, amusement parks, and sporting events around the country. The America's Army series has also been expanded to include versions for Xbox and Xbox 360, arcade, and mobile applications published through licensing arrangements. The game was developed by Col. <a Href=http//wwwinfomasterbiz/storyphpid=731334>hashbang Games Launches New

Wildomar, CA July 24, 2012

Today, Hashbang Games is proud to announce their new business relationship with Maxon, makers of Cinema 4D and the launch of their Kickstarter page for Orbital Blaster. Orbital Blaster is a new shooter inspired by classic arcade games like Galaga. With its fast pace action, simple mechanics and amazing graphics, this unique shooter redefines ?what makes games fun?.

In addition, they have been committed to building Orbital Blaster for the new Ouya Gaming Console. Launching on the Ouya will allow them to reach a broader audience and bring Orbital Blaster to the big screen TV. Hashbang Games CEO Marco Williams says, ?Since the Ouya will not have any power limitations effecting battery life, we can release a new set of features for the console.?

For the Ouya, and possibly tablet owners, Hashbang Games will be releasing a new kind of gaming experience. Orbital Blaster will have a built in level editor that will allow users to create new and challenging game play experiences along with the ability to share, rate and rank them among their friends and the whole community. Making use of Cinema 4D, they have been creating a plethora of content for the community to build the most exhilarating and intense levels to play. In addition, Maxon has sponsored their efforts to integrate Cinema 4D created content.

There are some new and exciting projects for Orbital Blaster that Hashbang Games and Maxon have been discussing. They can?t go into too much detail, but it involves getting the Cinema 4D design and development community to participate in content creation! Their Kickstarter project will be the fuel to bring Orbital Blaster to life and make all sub-projects possible.

Backyard Sports: Rookie Rush

Comical kids compete on playgrounds and parks once more in this continuation of the Backyard Sports series. Rookie Rush features a selection of 12 teams, from the "Bunsen Blazers" to the "Meadowbrook Monsters." Each team has a distinctive home field and is captained by a youngster individually rated in speed, tackling, throwing, and power. The seven-on-seven action follows the basics of football, albeit with a much simpler play calling system and an emphasis on lighthearted, arcade-style action. Players can activate power-ups such as banana peels, ice cream trucks, and the dreaded "stinky pants" to help themselves or hinder their rivals. Up to four players can participate in an exhibition match, choose one of five mini-games, or enter a tournament. Solo players can either build the best team on the block in the story mode or lead their favorite team to victory over the course of a season. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
