Joy McRae

Regina Joy (Vollmer) McRae Age 49: born November 17, 1962 in Santa Monica, California; died March 26, 2012. She is survived by her parents: Reginald and Molly Vollmer; sister, Heidi Vollmer; brother, Ted Vollmer; sons: Nathan McRae, Justin McRae, and Andrew McRae. Her schooling included Willard Elementary, Glover Middle School, and graduation from Shadle Park High School in 1980.

Joy fought a long battle with brain cancer, starting in 1993. Against the odds, she managed to raise three sons, become an accomplished seamstress, serve as a Cub Scout Leader and badge advisor, play the viola in the Project Joy Orchestra and the Gonzaga Orchestra, and volunteer for many years at a local nursing home.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Project Joy or to a charity of your choice in memory of Joy.

Classical Composers

Bach

"Bach is the first great modern composer. He was able to articulate the 'inner' self of modernity; and we are modern people. When we listen to Bach, we listen, as it were, to a father figure; to somebody who forged our culture at a deeper level than the purely cerebral or philosophical, and gives to our fragmented lives a gravitas, a high seriousness, a sense of significance that takes us beyond the muddled presence and helps us to touch something timeless and eternal; that is yet also deeply western."
