In a recent Penny Stock Detectives article, editor Danny Esposito points out that when we think of green energy, we think of available natural energy alternatives we can use efficiently, harming the environment the least. Esposito believes geothermal energy is a practically limitless green energy source, causing little harm to the environment?and potentially boosting technology stocks that harness this power.

??even at shallow depths, the earth provides a lot of heat,? describes Esposito. ?Despite thinking of particular areas around the world that have naturally warm climates, the truth is that, if we dig even a shallow amount underneath the earth?s crust, we can literally feel the natural heat that is generated by the earth itself.?

Geothermal energy is a green energy that uses this limitless energy, which is naturally generated by the earth, and harnesses it to produce electricity.

According to Esposito, what companies have uncovered is that a small reservoir can be dug in the ground and water can be placed in it?or rainwater will eventually fill the reservoir.

Since the earth naturally pushes heat upward toward the surface, one can take advantage of this green energy by allowing the flow of the earth?s heat to heat the water in the reservoir. In green energy terms, this is called a geothermal reservoir, Esposito explains.

TAS Energy of Houston, Texas is an example of one technology company that is building geothermal reservoirs, transporting the reservoir?s hot water into a steam separator. The steam separator then captures the energy in the hot water in the form of steam, explains Esposito.

The steam is sent to a turbine, which then generates electricity through a generator. After isolating the energy, the leftover water is sent back into the geothermal reservoir to be heated by the earth and begin the cycle again.

Geothermal energy is an exciting development in the green energy space. The most attractive feature is that its energy is limitless, because it comes from the earth itself using a renewable resource.

The technology stocks that are best able to harness this green energy and conveniently bring it to areas where it can be easily installed and used will be big, big winners, believes Esposito.
